Bed Bug Treatment Preparation Checklist for Wokingham

Two Days Before

• Strip all bedding into a bag, in the room
• Hot wash it, then a FULL hot tumble dry cycle
• Do the same with worn clothing from the room
• Duvet, pillows, mattress topper and protector as well — these get missed
• Seal the clean laundry in fresh bags and keep it in a different room
• Ask about anything the care label rules out rather than bagging and leaving it
• Soft toys through the same wash and dry

The Day Before

• Clear everything from under the bed — keep it in the room
• Empty all divan drawers into bags or boxes — keep them in the room
• Empty an ottoman base completely
• Empty bedside drawers
• Pull the bed away from the wall
• Pull other furniture far enough off the walls to get behind
• Clear the floor line right round the room
• Take pictures and mirrors off the wall above the bed if it is safe to do so
• Write down: dates, what you found, what you have already done

The Morning Of

• Strip the bed to the bare mattress and leave it that way
• Check the bed is reachable from all four sides
• Arrange for pets to be elsewhere
• Make sure somebody who knows the property will be there
• Have your notes to hand
• Have the preparation instructions you were given to hand

Do NOT

• Do not spray anything
• Do not move furniture or belongings to another room
• Do not sleep in a different room
• Do not sleep on the sofa
• Do not throw furniture away
• Do not deep clean the room
• Do not put clean laundry back in the room
• Do not leave sealed bags of clothing in the room
• Do not rearrange the furniture layout

After the Visit

• Follow the exclusion period you are given before using the room normally
• Do not wash, wipe or vacuum treated surfaces until you are told
• Put the bed back as it was — do not swap furniture in
• Keep the clean laundry sealed until you are told it can come back
• Do not put drawer contents back until you are told
• Tell whoever cleans the property what the instructions are
• Report any new activity rather than waiting to see
• Note the date, what you saw and how big it was
