This sounds trivial. It is the single most useful thing on the page, because a treatment is undone by ordinary household behaviour rather than by anything dramatic.

- Including the things not to do, which are the part that gets forgotten

- Mentioned again a week later, because the instruction that matters most is the one that runs longest
The commonest way a family treatment fails is somebody doing something normal. Vacuuming a treated skirting board, putting the beds back, moving a chair between rooms, washing the bedding and putting it in the airing cupboard with everything else.

The instinct in a family is to reshuffle: move the affected child in with a sibling, put a parent on the sofa, give up the bedroom for a fortnight. Every one of those turns one room into two.

A family home has communal seating in genuine long-hours use, which a single-person household often does not.

- An armchair somebody always uses

- Cushions, throws and blankets that live on the sofa
- A footstool or ottoman, particularly one with storage
- Car seats and the car, if a child has been sleeping in it — low risk, but worth a look in a long-running case
Laundry in a Household of Five
- Bag it in the room it comes from, sealed, and labelled
- Hot wash and a full hot tumble dry, and the dryer is the part that matters
- Keep dried laundry sealed in clean bags until after the treatment
- Do not put treated-room laundry into the general airing cupboard
- Start days early — family volume does not fit into one evening
- School uniform and sports kit are part of it, not exceptions
