Signs Worth Looking For

• Small moths close to the floor rather than around lights
• Irregular thinning or bald patches in wool carpet
• Damage along edges and where carpet meets skirting
• Bare patches revealed when heavy furniture is moved
• Fine silky webbing, sometimes with debris caught in it
• Small cream larvae in the pile, or shed larval cases
• Damage to rugs, often visible from the underside first

Adult Moths Are Not the Infestation

The larvae do the feeding, and they are somewhere quieter than wherever you saw the moth. On a large property that distance can be considerable — a moth in a hallway may have come from a room at the other end of it.

Larvae feed on natural animal fibres, and good wool carpet is exactly that. On a property where several rooms are carpeted in quality wool, the potential cost of an unchecked infestation is not the treatment — it is the carpet.
